Think of this as a foodie's beer blog.  I spend a great deal of my time obsessing over beer but I'm fond of most other gastronomic pursuits.  So, expect quite a lot of discussion of beer here but don't be surprised if the posts occasionally wander far afeild.

I am the guide to beer at About.com and I blog about beer and booze for BoozinGear.com.  In addition to brewing my own ale I have studied beer and for years.

I'm interested in blogging about food because I enjoy cooking and experimenting with food. I read cookbooks like novels and like to adapt recipes to make them into something that will "fit" more with my family's likes.  I'm not much into gourmet, but more into family-style and down-home cooking....if I have fresh ingredients, I can usually throw together something great with whatever is in my cabinets, it's a challenge to me!

I'm a wife and mom, married 10 years and mom to a 5 year old daughter.  My job is taking care of my family and my house and contributing to the household finances by being a ChaCha guide.  By not having a job outside the home, I am able to concentrate on ensuring my family has healthy (most of the time!) and yummy (most of the time!) meals.  Even when I lived by myself, before I got married, I enjoyed cooking for myself and my friends. My grandmother has handed down her recipes to me, I'm enjoying updating them a little bit and making them for my own family.

Having been a DJ for a number of years, my life revolves around entertainment, especially music.  I tend to keep up with all the new releases specific to the genres I spin (hiphop, dubstep, glitch, pop), as well as dig deep into the crates for old funk and soul gems.  I'm also very into turntablism and skratch music production, and could write on developments in that arena as well.

When I'm not DJing I try to stay as social as possible, going to many concerts and club nights throughout the week.

Aside from music, I also have a strong interest in video games.  I've been a gamer for as long as  I can remember.  My focus on video games is primarily in the Action and RPG realms, although I also quite enjoy
the retro stylings of the game systems past.

I'm a 26 year old graduate student working on my
master's degree in sociocultural anthropology.  I've written for a
number of blogs and have kept my own -- http://www.nerdshit.com -- for around 4 years now.  Aside from writing and my studies, I spend much
time behind my turntables, mixing music and making people shake their booties.

I graduate Albertus Magnus College (Psychology / Art) (Arttherapist) in New Haven CT.

The city of New Haven is known for all of its diverse restaurants. I ate out just about every night. One night I entered a contest to be a panelist on the best Italian food in New Haven.  I was elected to be the group spokesperson on live radio for several Thursday's giving my critique on area restaurants, this how I got started.

Today I take a great deal of time preparing meals.

For example:

  • Grilled eggplant
  • Grilled chicken breast
  • Grilled giant pork chops
  • Pasta with green vegetables
  • Veal chops with orzo rice and tomato sauce
  • Pork tenders with apricots

These are just a few dishes that I prepare. I still go out to lunch and dinner often. I always ask to speak to the chef for recipes and congrats when deserved. It has been my job to tell restaurants the truth.

I once went to an Italian pizza restaurant in Norwalk CT. who stated in a newspaper article that he had the best pizza in all of Connecticut including New Haven.

I had to go and try this product. I could not finish it was not good at all. I gave them my opinion and the owner gave me the door.
Ironically this person soon after, opened another restaurant in Fairfield CT, a little closer to New Haven and it failed.  I never had the chance to sample his Fairfield pizza.

Well, needless to say he is now completely out of business. However the restaurants that I first tasted in New Haven are all in business today. I guess you could say that had good teachers.

My family TRIES to eat vegan because of the health benefits.  After reading The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, we all agreed that it was in our best interests to eliminate animal products from our diets.  However, we are a typical American family who doesn't always have time to cook homemade meals each evening, and we struggle with making tasty meals that aren't expensive.  Trying to please three people while sticking to a vegan diet is a challenge!  My son is in 2nd grade, so I also worry about fixing him quick, healthy school lunches that won't get him made-fun-of!  (Oh, and that he will actually EAT, too!)

I love to cook, and I love to bake, so that covers many aspects of "food"!  I have a decent digital camera, so I often use that to take photos of my best-looking meals!

I have read sooo many books, including The China Study.  I am always picking  up books from the library on health / nutrition, as well as vegetarian and vegan cookbooks.  Trial and error is my experience!  I love to try new things, and hope my readers will enjoy "trying" them along with me!!!
